  17. The subject of it was a native of Africa. When about
  18. seven years of age, he was kidnapped, brought to this country, and
  19. enslaved. He was supposed to belong to one of the last cargoes of
  20. this sort, ever landed on the shores of Virginia. He was purchased
  21. at Osborne's, on James' river, by a Mr. Stewart, and was
  22. subsequently taken to the county of Nottoway, Virginia, where the
  23. whole of his long and interesting life was spent.
